Located
eight kilometres east of town, Adisucipto International Airport is the main
gateway to Yogyakarta and the third busiest airport on Java after Jakarta's
Soekarno Hatta International Airport and Surabaya's Juanda International
Airport. It is the third busiest airport on Java since becoming an
international airport in 2004.
The
majority of flights arriving at the airport are from domestic destinations such
as Denpasar, Jakarta, Pontianak, Balikpapan and Surabaya. Limited international
flights arrive from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Flights from Jakarta are frequent
almost hourly and take just 50 minutes to reach Yogyakarta. International
flights are offered by Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines (Kuala Lumpur) and Indonesia
Air flying to Singapore daily.
The
airport operates a small terminal with basic facilities such as an information
desk, ATMs and small selection of shopping and dining outlets. A taxi counter
is also available, situated in the Arrivals hall. Aside from taxis, there are
no other transportation options available at the airport.
